The prime criterion for selecting a research field for a graduate is whether it is a common problem faced by a large number of people or not. It is interesting to note that in a recent survey on how children are taught in school, the leading answer was that the child learns the most from interactions with the teacher rather than observing or being told. 'This study indicates that the greatest benefit is derived from teachers teaching children about themselves and their surroundings rather than information given to them,' concluded the report. 'It also shows that teachers and parents can have a powerful impact on the learning of their students.'
